(OK) Legislatures in six states will not be meeting this year, and a number of legislatures have already commenced, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures 2008 preliminary session calendar. Oklahoma's legislative session convenes on Feb. 4 and adjourns on May 30.
Arkansas, Montana, Nevada, North Dakota, Oregon and Texas will have no regular session in 2008, according to the NCSL calendar. Two states - Pennsylvania and Rhode Island - convened on Jan. 1. One state, Indiana, held its organizational day last year, on Nov. 20, 2007, and has a constitutional opening date on Jan. 14, which may be moved, according to NCSL, which last updated its calendar on Sept. 25. Oregon, one of the states with no regular session scheduled this year, will be holding a special session on budget issues that will convene Feb. 4 and adjourn Feb. 29.
Sessions in several states - Alaska, Arizona, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Nebraska and Tennessee - begin in January and end in April, while others end in May and June. California's Legislature convenes on Jan. 7 and adjourns on Aug. 31.
